For the San Jose/Silicon Valley Area, call: 1-616-328-5711
For lost or found ferrets, please call and leave a detailed message as soon as possible. If you cannot get through please try our other numbers.
For confiscated ferrets (if your ferret has been taken by authorities) please let us know so we can contact rescue groups out of state to transport your ferret out of state. Finding a lost ferret is not a lost cause, nor is it hard to help a found ferret. Lost ferrets will not bite you, just bring them inside and place in a large box with the top open or a carrier with some cat food and water temporarily. If you have trouble getting a ferret to come to you, squeak toys and whistling are usually good.
All
information we receive is strictly confidential. |
The
following are three files that may be helpful to ferret folks.
The first is for posting around your neighborhood in case you
have lost one of your ferret friends.
The second
you can use in case you find a ferret. Because ferrets are illegal
in California, it is best that you call us to pick the ferret
up for safe keeping until you can find the owner. That's why we
don't put the word ferret on the FOUND posters. If you did you
would have someone from Fish and Game knocking on your door. If
for some reason you do not want to use your cell or home phone
number as the contact number, we can provide one you can use.
If you do find a ferret and you decide to keep it, please call
us with any questions. We just want to be sure you feed it the
right food and to answer any questions you may have.
If you decide that
this ferret is not for you and you are not going to keep it, please
don't just put it back outside and think it will make its way
back home. Some neighborhood dog, red-tail hawk or even a raccoon
will kill this helpless little critter. Call any of the ferret
people listed on this website and we will come and take care of
the ferret. Please remember: this animal cannot survive on its
own! Thank you.
The third
is to post in your home to alert people to free running ferrets
that may attempt to reenact scenes from Born Free and make a break
for the great outdoors. These are pdf files. We have a link to
Adobe Acrobat to download their free reader for pdf files in case
you don't have it already loaded on our Newletters
Page.
